The Deployment Project {Week 6}

Our week in pictures for Week 6.

Here's Brennan trying to play "Here's the church, here's the steeple..." I'm pretty sure this was his steeple. : )

Day36-Sun

Preschool celebrated Valentine's Day on Monday.  Here is Brennan with all the Valentine goodies from his friends.

Day37-Mon

My Valentine flowers from my Honey. By the way, I looked up orange roses, and they symbolize Desire, Enthusiasm, and Passion.  Aww...

Day38-Tue

My lunch on Wednesday.  It was yummy.

Day39-Wed

After Brennan being sick and me being sick, I was feeling cooped up and just had to make a big mess create something.

Day40-Thurs

More of my flowers.  I can't help it, if there are flowers around, I just have to take pictures of them.

Day41-Fri

Not a great picture, but here's what I did with all the cut up paper.

Day42-Sat

And that is that.  I just realized all of my pictures this week were taken in the kitchen/dining area.  You know what they say about the heart of the home... : )

Behind

Hello everyone!  It's been a few days since I've been around.  A really busy week plus being on the verge of coughing up my lungs doesn't leave much time for blogging.  And as my title suggests, aside from being behind on blogging, I feel like I am just off kilter all around.  Which when I think about it, is kind of silly.  Because really, I don't have any deadlines, and the only things I have to do in addition to the day to day normal stuff are my art and painting projects.  Maybe I just have too many of them in the works at the same time.  More on them later.

So really, I just wanted to hop on here to let you know I am still around.  I have lots of pictures to go through and edit, and when that's done I will have my Deployment Project pictures from last week, valentiney goodness, and Brennan's birthday to share.

Here's a peek at the birthday, which is also my favorite picture of the week. : )

The Deployment Project {Week 5}

I really tried to avoid Brennan's sick germs.  I was not successful.  Ugh.  I was down for the count for most of the week.  I am just now starting to feel human again.  It was definitely not a pleasant time.  Brennan was such a big helper.  One of my favorite things: He's been singing his own bedtime songs since it hurts my throat to talk.  He's so sweet.

Jason's birthday was on Friday.  I had planned to do a special post for him, but obviously that didn't happen.  Happy late Birthday Honey!

I did manage to take a picture every day.  Wanna see?

I was still well on Sunday and I was able to get all crafty wrapping a birthday gift for Shanny.  It's in the mail, I hope you like it!

Day29-Sun

My pothos plant was in desperate need of a trim.  It was getting so long it was reaching the floor.  I am trying to root the cuttings, but so far I've got nothing.  I'll just let these pieces hang out until they grow roots or turn brown.

Day30-Mon

We spent the afternoon building shapes with the dominoes.  I think I better go and disinfect the whole box!

Day31-Tue

One of the girls in Brennan's class gave out birthday treats.  He loves anything that will stick to the window, so this little hand was a big hit.

Day32-Wed

I think he liked his banana snowmen. : )

Day33-Thurs

Chloe dog.  She looks sad in this picture, but she's really not.  She's the most happy-go-lucky dog I've ever seen.

Day34-Fri

Friday and Saturday were my worst sick days.  Of course me being sick didn't stop Brennan from wanting to craft, color, and cook, and he reminded me we hadn't made any goodies all week.  Thank goodness I had a cookie decorating kit in the pantry.

Day35-Sat

And there we have it.  I'm pretty impressed with myself that I've made it 5 weeks now and I've been able to get a picture everyday with very little effort.  Hopefully the next 5 weeks go just as smoothly.

A Cabinet Refinish

I thought today I would show you one of the things I have been working on in the past few weeks.  This is a little cabinet in our foyer.  I'm sure you've seen it around on the blog.  It was in our foyer in our last house, too.  Before that it was in the dining room, and in the two houses prior to that it was in the kitchen.  You get the idea, it's a super versatile little cabinet (and we move a lot.)

So, though I love my little cabinet, I had fallen out of love with it's color.  There is no natural light where it sits, and it was reminding me of a big black hole.

I didn't take a full picture before I started dismantling and taping it up, but I'm sure you can imagine, it was just black.

Cabinet Before - 1

As you can see, it's purpose at the moment is holding all the decorating stuff that doesn't have a place in the house right now.

Cabinet Before -2

The colors I chose for my refinish project were:
Paint: Milk Pail by Martha Stewart
Stain: Dark Walnut by Minwax

A big BIG thank you to Katie at clarendon lane for the color inspiration.  She refinished her master bathroom vanity with those colors and I loved it.  (She's an Air Force wife, too.  Her blog is cute and has tons of decorating and furniture refinishing ideas, go show her some love!)

Cabinet Door

So after some paint, some distressing, some stain, and some poly, here's the finished result.

Cabinet Refinish After - 1

Much lighter and brighter.

Cabinet Refinish After - 2

Just seeing it now makes me so happy.

Cabinet Refinish After - 3

Want to see what I'm working on next?

Chair Refinish

Kinda scary, huh?

The Deployment Project {Week 4}

Another week, yay!  On the bright side, literally, it was sunny most of this week, which ended up giving me a bit of Spring fever.  I did some closet shopping and put together some cute springy outfits and even bought a cute pair of new sandals.  Unfortunately, I have a few months before Spring actually gets here, so back in the closet all that stuff went.  Boo.  And on top of that I got to see all my Florida friends post on facebook about shorts and flip-flops and how great the weather is down there.  Double Boo.

If you've read the blog at all this week, you've seen that Brennan has been sick.  Thankfully, he is much better today.  He is SO ready to go back to school tomorrow, and I am ready for the couple of hours of Mommy alone time that I get when he goes to school. : )

So here's our week in pictures:

I'm so glad technology has advanced since Jason's earlier deployments. Being able to Skype once a week has been wonderful.

Day22-Sun

The parking lot seagulls.  They are always there just waiting for somebody to drop something on the ground.  If I were a seagull, I'd much rather hang out at the beach.

Day23-Mon

Brennan loves to help me crack eggs, and he's pretty good at it too. Crack eggs, yes.  Eat them, no.  I have no idea why he is anti-egg.  He's the same way with potatoes.

Day24-Tue

Sick day.  This was the first day the little man was sick.  He slept on the couch for most of the day.

Day25-Wed

Still not feeling great, but well enough to give me a smile and run to the post office so we could mail Daddy a package.

Day26-Thurs

I pretty much always have paint brushes drying on the kitchen sink.  One day I will have a craft room with it's own sink...and lots of windows, and shelves.

Day27-Fri

On Saturday, we made some gluten-free brownies with chocolate chips. They were yummy.

Day28-Sat

Friday Favorites

I haven't done a favorites post for a little while, huh?  I don't have much to talk about this morning, or anything ready to show you, but I think I can round up a few favorites for your viewing enjoyment.

My most un-favorite thing at the moment is Brennan is still sick.  He's better than the other day, but still not well enough to go back to school. : (

Brennan - Chocolate face

Hopefully he's back to his normal self soon.

My favorite Pin...this week.
Have I mentioned I adore Pinterest?  I do.  If you're not following me yet, you can check out my boards here.  Here's my favorite pin this week. It reminded me of when I was a little girl and we spent weekends at my grandparents' house.  My Grandpa would make us breakfast in the morning, and he would make these, with a torn out middle instead of the heart shape. He called his "Hawaiian Sunsets." It brought back great memories and made me smile. : )

Favorite Hair Product
I have tried tons of hair products in my life.  Tons.  Last month when I went in for a haircut, my stylist suggested this stuff.  I am so glad!  It does these 10 things, hence the name.  From the bottle: "1. Repairs dry damaged hair. 2. Adds shine. 3. Smoothes and controls frizz. 4. Seals and protects hair color. 5. Detangles. 6. Prevents split ends. 7. Stops hair breakage. 8. Creates silkiness. 9. Enhances natural body. 10. Flat iron spray and thermal protector."  It's the only hair product I have to use right now. Yay!

Favorite Snacks

Pickled Beets - I know some of you are thinking Ewww, but I love pickled beets.  Add some cottage cheese with them, yum!

Glutino Gluten Free Pretzel Twists - I have been contemplating cutting down my gluten intake for awhile.  I've read some articles about gluten intolerance, and I have some of the symptoms.  A major one is having what I've always called dizzy headaches.  I have them often, and have had them for as long as I can remember.  I started my experiment about 3 weeks ago now, and I am happy to say I have had no dizzy headaches, and only a couple regular headaches!  I blame those on hormones. : )  It may just be a coincidence, but I'm sticking to it.

Brennan's Favorites

My Daddy is an Airman book
I don't think this book is even printed anymore, but Jason got it in a Family Deployment Kit before he left.  It talks about what happens during a deployment, and about what Air Force parents do.  Brennan wants to read it all the time.  So sweet.

Roasted Garbanzo Beans - Does anyone else's kid ask you to roast garbanzo beans every day?  Mine does.  If I would let him, he would eat a whole can by himself.  These are my favorite too, and I do end up making some at least every other day.  We like ours salty/savory, but I've seen some recipes out there for sugar cinnamon ones that we may have to try some time too.

Have a great weekend!

Happy February

Happy February Everyone!

Just a quick post today.  Brennan is home sick from school today, and we have a date to watch a little Kung Fu Panda.  He's doing much better now, but last night he had a fever, sick stomach, and a cough.  Right now it's just a cough, thank goodness.  Let's just say I had lots of very unpleasant laundry to do this morning.  Please pray that soap and hand sanitizer keeps those germs away from me!  He was funny this morning.  He was recapping the events from the wee morning hours and he told me he got "choke" all over the floor.  Poor guy.

Since today is the first of February, I thought it would be a great day to share our Valentine decked mantel and hutch.  I know I've been showing glimpses of them for a couple weeks, but now you can see the whole picture.

Here is our hutch.  Hopefully this is the last time you see it this color.  I am way over the black and wood.  It has a big makeover in it's future.  It has to wait it's turn though, I have other projects happening right now.  I'm thinking that at this rate, by the time Jason gets home, I will have painted or modge-podged everything in the house. : )

Hutch 1

Like my little topiaries?  I love them!  I found them on Amazon. (Though it looks like the price went up since I bought mine. Bummer.)  The wood blocks are from Target either last year or the year before, and the cards are from Paper Source.

Hutch 2

Hutch 3

Hutch 4

A little love on the chalkboard.  It needs a makeover, too.  It's chalkboardy-ness is almost nonexistent.  I have to get it wet to write on it.  Time for some spray paint!

Little Chalkboard

And the mantel.

Mantel 1

Our "Love Across the World" globes.  I may have to keep them up past Valentine's Day. : )  The Be Mine art is just a card I stuck in a frame.

Mantel 2

Our waterless snow globes are still hanging out.

Mantel 3

I planned on making a bunch of these, but when I got this one up, I liked it just fine all by itself.  Any more would have distracted from my lovely window.

Mantel 4

Here's the bottom half.  Remember when I mentioned I had made a chalkboard at Brennan's level?  Well, here it is.  He loves it.  All I did was stick some chalkboard Contact paper on a piece of plexi-glass I had in the garage.

Mantel 5

So simple and so cute. : )
