Pictures From Parent's Day

It was Parent's Day today at school.  Brennan has been looking forward to it for weeks.  In the past these days haven't been my favorite events since for some reason Brennan tends to turn into a turkey when faced with an audience.  Other kids won't leave their parent's laps the whole time, mine becomes the life of the party.

He did good today though, I was proud of him. We did miss out on the beginning of the Parent/Kid craft time because as soon as I walked in the door Brennan announced to everyone that he had to go to the bathroom and he needed help, right now!...and then he took off running.  Ha, I'm glad I was there to help, he was in there for awhile. Ahem. :)

Even with the delay, Brennan had plenty of time to show me his cutting and gluing skills. We made a Cat in the Hat hat.  Brennan still hasn't decided if he left or right handed.  He switches back and forth constantly.  He seems to use both at the same skill level, so maybe he'll be ambidextrous?  We shall see in time. I don't ever push him, of course, but in my head I am "Go Team Lefty!" :)

Showing off his finished hat.

The hats all had an obvious design flaw; not one of them fit on the kids' heads!  Oops!

This time around the kids sat on the floor and sang songs about the days of the week, and about how much coins are worth.  They also did some sign language and reviewed their music symbols for us.

After everyone found their music note, Brennan wanted to show me all the things on the wall.  As you can see, he had to keep track of what everybody else was doing, too. :)

And that's that. I can't believe it's already March, and the second Parent's Day this year.  This school year is flying by!

Back to School

It's that time already!  For Brennan that time couldn't come soon enough; he's been wanting to go to school every day this summer.

First Day of School 2011

Brennan has a brand new teacher this year.  We had our teacher meet and greet today, and Brennan seems to like her.  I hope she's ready for him.  : )  There was nothing shy about him this morning.  He walked in with his super-confident swagger, and was already acting like he owned the place.  They had the class split this morning, but it looks like there might be some boys in his class this year.  I hope so!

After school we went shopping and had lunch at McDonald's.  Soccer starts in a couple weeks, and we had to get some gear.  I'm glad we didn't wait any longer to shop.  Target wasn't too bad, but the shoe store was packed with back to school shoppers and there was only one pair of cleats left in Brennan's size.  They are now on his feet, along with his shin guards, and soccer socks.  He can't wait for Jason to get home tonight so they can play soccer in the front yard.  Wish me luck, I can already foresee the drama that is going to be involved in getting him to take his gear off to take a bath tonight.

Hey, I just realized I'm an official soccer mom now.  Pray for me. : )

We Have a Little Graduate

Yesterday was Brennan's preschool graduation.  Obviously he doesn't understand what a graduation is, because this morning he asked if he was going to school today.  I don't know how he's going to make it through summer!  Actually, it won't be too bad, we have him signed up for some day camps throughout June and July, (and we have our big vacation in July!) so he will have some fun things to do.

Too bad they don't have a stage at school...or some bleachers.  They had chairs set up for all the adults, but since the kids aren't any taller than the chairs, it was hard to see anything if you had to sit anywhere but the front row.  We found aisle seats a couple rows back, but we spent most of the time just standing.

This is one of the school owners giving a speech.  It looks like Brennan wanted to be in the spotlight, too. : )

I'm sure I've mentioned before that Brennan was the only boy in his class.  He was so cute sitting up there with all the girls.  They did a nursery rhyme presentation where everybody got to act out a part.  Brennan got to end the skit as Old Mother Hubbard's Dog.

He even took a bow at the end.  I was too slow, so I didn't get a picture, but he was so cute!

A couple more presentations.

We had to get a picture with his teacher, Ms. Jensen.  We are sure going to miss her next year!

Some of his happiness was a result of getting a popsicle after the ceremony!

Though he was all about the popsicle, he did sit still long enough to take a picture with Mommy and Daddy.

After we left school we had to stop by Jason's office for a few minutes, then we took the little graduate out for a celebration meal.  He chose McDonald's, of course. : )  After that we headed to the park and had some fun playing there.  Fun, fun day!

Congratulations Brennan!

Parent's Day aka Early Turkey Day

This week has been a little hectic.  We've started a new routine and we're not quite in the groove yet.  We got a call the end of last week from Brennan's school telling us that there was an opening for three-day-a-week preschool.  Before that he was only going on Friday.  Jason and I talked about it, and decided that we should go ahead.  Brennan seems to loves school.  He's asks to go every day.  When he gets up in the morning, his line of questions are always the same:  1. "Daddy at?" 2. "School today?"

Wednesday was Parent's Day at school.  During the last 30 minutes of the class the parents were invited to come and see what the kids do during class.

Brennan was a real turkey for most of the time.  And not in a good way.

Parent's Day - Shakers
Notice that Brennan is the only boy in his class?  Five girls and one boy.  Poor kid.

Parent's Day - Little Leaf

Brennan wasn't much of a participator during all the songs and skits.  He would go and get his instrument, or hat, or leaf and then make a beeline to come and stand by me and Jason.  Maybe he's intimidated by all those girls. : )

No, Jason talked to Brennan's teacher afterward and she said it was because we were there, normally he does join in.  Also, since Brennan didn't actually start school until October in the one day program, and the girls have been there since the beginning of September in the three day program, he just hasn't had enough time to get up to speed, so to speak.

After all the fun in the classroom, we got to go out into the atrium and make a craft.

Parent's Day - Thankful Turkey
It was a Thankful Turkey.

Brennan had no interest in that, except to put on the eyes, so I ended up putting most of it together myself while Jason wrangled Brennan from getting into everything.  Being out in the atrium was way to much of a distraction.  There are computers and musical instruments, and big comfy chairs out there.  Brennan wanted to check out all that stuff, to heck with a paper turkey.

I was definitely glad when it was time to go.  I think Brennan was, too.  He is normally happy when I pick him up, and excited to tell me what he did, but this time he cried all the way home, and then it took him forever to be happy once we were there.

Whew, I'm glad we don't have to go through that everyday.  Hopefully the next Parent's Day will be less traumatizing.

...for everyone. : )

Brennan's First Day of School

Our little boy is growing up!!
Brennan started Preschool on Friday!  I had him on a waiting list to a school I really liked, and luckily on Wednesday they called and said they had a slot open.  Yay!

For now it's only one day a week, which I think is going to work out great, just to get him used to going.

I think he loves it already.  Every morning he asks if we are going to school.  He also points to the art project he made (displayed proudly on the refrigerator, of course!) and tells me what is it, and that he wants to make more.

First Day of School
When we got to his classroom he just sat right down and jumped right into it.

Not that there wasn't tears shed.  There was a little boy in the class that was very upset to be there.  He cried the whole time.  At one point he had the whole class crying with him, Brennan included.  His teacher is very patient with all of them.  She wasn't bothered a bit; she said that was a typical day.  I'm glad there are people out there like her.  I sure couldn't do it.

Unfortunately, this week is Fall Break, so no school this week.  On the bright side though, we get to go on a field trip next week.  We're going to a local pumpkin patch.  Should be fun!
