Project: 365 [The Beginning]

Happy New Year!

I've decided to start another 365 project.  The last time I tried this I kind of pooped out after a couple months.  I think I got busy, and missed a day or two so I ended up just scrapping the whole deal.  I'm going to try to do better this time. :)  I think I am going to do monthly (or weekly themes) this time to help inspire me.  Right now, I'm in random mode.  Jut taking pictures of what is happening that particular day.

Here is my day 1 of 365.  Talk about random, I didn't imagine I would start out the project with a picture of raw meat, but besides watching football, we ALWAYS have to get in our healthy, wealthy and wise meal on New Year's Day.  These are the main ingredients in my Black Eye Pea Casserole.

A Brand New Year

Bye, Bye 2009! Welcome, 2010!

You gotta love the new year, fresh and clean and full of hope. What will I do with this year? I have sort of a rough draft worked out for some things, but for others...I can't wait to find out!

On another blog I read, there was a post about resolutions. I've never been too much of a resolution girl, because let's face it, you make a new resolution Jan. 1st, and by February, it's forgotten about. Mostly because it's too restrictive, or unreasonable. The blog I was reading was about taking a different approach to making a better new year. Instead of making a list of specific things...

...go to the gym every day!
...lose 10 pounds!
...eat better!
...etc, etc.!

...instead of doing the list thing, make a one word resolution. A one word resolution? I can do that! So that's what I did. Of course, I had to put some thought into my word, and decide just what word was going to make the biggest impact on the most areas of my life.

The word I decided on?

Simplify

My word choice was simple, and it was actually something I have already been trying to do. I want to clear out the clutter in my life, whether it be simplifying my wardrobe, making menus for the month so it simplifies mealtimes and grocery shopping, or even prioritizing my computer time.

I’m all in. What’s your New Year’s resolution?

2009 - A Year In Review

Wow, this year has really gone by fast! Diane Sawyer was talking about the most memorable moments of the year on the news the other night. Some of them seemed like they happened so long ago; that they couldn't have possibly occured in '09. Others seemed like only yesterday, but were almost a year ago. When I started going through my photos for this post, I felt the same way.

It's been a good year for us. For the most part, we had really great and happy times (great vacations, new firsts for Brennan, and Jason made TechSgt), but we also had some scary moments (Jason's stay at the hospital) and frustrations (orders changing three times). We've had our bittersweet move to Utah, great to move on to new adventures, but sad to leave behind great friends, jobs and family.

So here we go, a look back at the Bal family in 2009.

So since after copying and pasting and posting all these pictures, I am now almost out of words. So Jason has offered to take over typing now, and say a few words. :)

Jason's words-
So here we are in Utah, definitely not the place we thought we would end up, but it has been a good couple of months. We had fun at Halloween (Brennan and I dressed up as comboys)then came Thanksgiving, and then Christmas. In November we took a trip through the mountains. We went through Ogden Canyon and to an altitude of 9875 feet, we saw a lot of God's handywork, not to mention snow, and nature.(Oh, and did I mention snow?) The mountains are beautiful, but it doesn't replace the friends and family we have left behind.

As a family, we are looking to the future and the light is bright.

From my family to yours, I wish you a very happy and glorious New Year.

Love,
The Bal Family
